A soak in the bath

I have been dreaming of having a long soak in a gorgeous freestanding bath a lot over the past week. Now with our ensuite complete we have a wonderful shower but we won't have the new family bathroom and therefore a bath for at least another three months but more likely four (or actually when you talk builders time-lines five).

It has been a difficult week and I haven't been on the blog for over a week. Last week I came down with a awful virus early in the week and as I was getting better got the sad news that my Grandma had passed away. It was very unexpected even though she was 91 but she did pass away peacefully in her sleep which is good. We had the funeral a couple of days ago. It was a beautiful service with lovely speeches, very fitting for the strong, inspiring women she was, a woman well ahead of her time. To give you an idea we shared a love for the TV show Sex in the City and she worked as a high school teacher even after having children, in a time when this was almost unheard of. Later in life she became a librarian and has passed down her love for books as I read to my children every day.

Also on another note my heart goes out to the people of North Queensland. I was happy to hear a friend of mine who had only just moved up there was safe and not too affected in the end but I am certainly thinking of all of those that were.

So over the week I have been longingly looking at some of my style file images and many magazines, trying to work out just what kind of family bathroom we want, it has been a great distraction. All the images I love are of white very calming spaces.

Love Rachael's bathroom for Room for Everyone blog

And some good news, we had a meeting with our building manager yesterday and they are going to start again late this week, so excited.

  1. I dream of a bath too. Ours is so small it's pathetic really. I won't even start on the size of the room or the mildew that's developed... oh I just did. :)
Enjoy your your nice ensuite at least that's a beautiful room! Have a great weekend Georgy.

  2. Hi georgy, so sorry about your grandma... My grandma is going to be 90 soon and I am constantly worried that she might not have long... She lives in scotland too, so I miss her and know i might not see her again..

Loving your idea of soaking in a long hot bath!! Isnt it strange how we dont want something, then when its gone, we start to want it again.... hmm
    well, have a lovely weekend!!

  3. Sorry to hear about your grandma. She sounds like a wonderful lady who enjoyed life to the fullest :-)

I'm not really a bath person, but these pictures are making me want to take a long, hot, relaxing soak right now!

  4. Hi Georgy, I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. Mine is 90 this year and I do fear getting that news.. Sounds like you need a soak in a bath! Thank you so much for featuring my bathroom, I am so flattered! Rachaelxx

  5. Hi Georgy, sorry to hear about your grandma, it sounds like you have a lot of wonderful memories of her.
There is nothing nicer than a relaxing soak in the tub, perhaps with a glass of wine in hand!!

  6. Sorry to hear about your Grandmother. What a week you have had.
It's nice to have a distraction and something to plan for. I think Rachael's bathroom is one of the best around.

  7. Goodness, Georgy, it has been a difficult time for you lately. I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandma. I'm so glad the funeral was a fitting tribute to her.

As for baths, I actually had my first one in about 2 years the other day, if you can believe it it. And *loved* it! Even 10 minutes spent with ears submerged so I couldn't hear the pixies and wasn't responsible for them felt like 2 hours!

After bathing all 3 of them most nights with all the associated palaver, I'd come to consider taking a bath as something I only did for them.

Now I'm going to 'draw' a bath for myself more often ☺. J x
