Colour inspiration

I often find inspiration from walking past cafes and this is no exception. Love the colour pop and at the moment I am trying to introduce yellow, red and orange into my home and garden. I will share photos soon.

Colour love

I am loving the cover of the latest edition of Home Beautiful, a range of blues that are so fresh and Summery and it goes with the look I am trying for in this area, right next to our stacking doors, which will eventually look out onto our deck.

Also will love these colours for our alfresco deck once we have it. Been told by our builder they will start building it in about a week, can't wait!

Do you change colour with the season?

Well now in April, day light savings has ended, leaves are starting to change colour and fall, frost has appeared on a couple of mornings and Winter fashion is in the shops, we are well and truly into Autumn.

Our canadian Maple the centre of our garden.

With this in mind when I saw a gorgeous red coat for my daughter the other day I snapped it up as we have already had cold days. This got me thinking that as far as fashion goes I make a shift in colours for the season but should I do the same in the house?

I often see in magazines the promotion of splashes of cool blues and green for Summer and then a change to the warmer orange or red cushions and throws for Winter.

Our house with mainly white walls (except for the new blue hallway) decorated with pictures in black frames, wooden floorboards and wood or white furniture really does provide that great neutral palette to change the accent colours for the season but I never really have.

This is probably because blue is my favourite colour with red being a close second, so I have both around the house all year around, so I suppose I naturally cover the seasonal colour spectrum. And I must admit, though I have these colours in my house all the time I am constantly moving things around to give different effects no matter what the season.

Loving the moment!

A long weekend in Melbourne and after spending Sunday around the house painting windows we decided the weather too beautiful and with it being a sunny 33 degrees a good time to go to the beach and enjoy.

So we jumped in the car and drove 45 minutes to Mt Martha beach on the Mornington Peninsula to get out of the car and find the temperature had dropped over 10 degrees.

Love the colour of the beach huts

And after 10 minutes on the beach the dark clouds let go and it poured. For a while we just enjoyed running in the rain, the kids laughing as we finally decided to run to the car.

We enjoyed the moment and after seeing more images on the news of Japan (so devastating and heartbreaking, I can no longer watch) later that evening made me really realise how important these moments are to hold on to.

Hope you had a lovely weekend with those you love.

Summer colour a great distraction from the build

Already mid way through January, so by now was hoping to have a build date for stage two of our renovation, our rear extension - but alas we don't. I was told yesterday by our Building Manager that he hasn't confirmed a carpenter yet, the first trade we need on the job. Others are lined up but can't do anything until the carpenter has started. I am assured though it will be sometime soon, whatever that means!

Good thing is every time I go to the fridge I get a glimpse of the calendar my kids gave me for Christmas and it instantly cheers me up. The picture for January is of a Provincial market in France, love the colour and the gorgeous terracotta houses that surround the market square.

A wander in the garden in its full Summer bloom also helps. These beautiful Saliva's greet me as I come in the front gate......

and this gorgeous fuchsia hangs over the iron railing on the front porch.......

a wander around the back garden and I smell and admire the Lavender.....

and love the tall Agapantha flowers against the green backdrop of the Canadian Maple and Jasmine.

Basil - smell, taste and colour

Basil, the perfect plant to adorn your kitchen table or island bench. The smell is divine, the colour of the leaves vibrant and uplifting and a great addition to that summer pasta, bruschetta or salad.

So even though the weather was fairly wet this weekend and so couldn't do much in the garden, with basil now in season I just had to get some for inside the house and I think it looks great in this blue pot.
Brief moment of sun shining through

Hope you had a great weekend.

Colour, sun and bare feet

The sun is out and the temperature is starting to creep higher after a very long Winter. And so yesterday we were out and about near the water, checking out the new area in the Docklands of Melbourne.

The blue sky, colourful lanterns and watching the kids enjoy the day made me smile. Then realising it is warm enough this morning to walk around the house in bare feet and feel the smoothness of the floorboards just added to this, I love spring and summer.

Now time to bring more colour into the house I think.

Happy day four of Blogtoberfest!

Out in the garden

The sun is out and the sky is blue for the first time in a while. So we have spent the day in the garden making the most of it. I love this time of year when the trees are starting to blossom or leaf and flowers are everywhere - the colours of Spring are beautiful.

And even though it wasn't at all wet today I just had to wear my wellington boots.....
